Minimalism is design by subtraction. Three principles define it:
- One or two fonts, no more. A single clean sans-serif, or a serif plus one accent face. Restraint in type is the heart of the style.
- White space as a feature. Minimalist designs leave room around every line, so the layout feels calm and intentional rather than empty.
- Near-neutral colour. Black, white, greige or a single muted accent. Minimalism almost never uses more than two colours.

Minimalist wedding invitation wording
Minimalist designs call for minimalist wording. Trim every line to its essence — names, action, date, place, reply — and cut anything a guest doesn't strictly need on the card.

Anything extra — dress code, travel, registry — belongs on a separate insert card or your wedding website, keeping the main invitation clean. For more phrasing options, see the wedding invitation wording guide.
The hardest part is leaving things out
With a minimalist design, the temptation is to fill the space. Resist it. If a line isn't essential, delete it in the editor — empty space is doing exactly what it should. Push the details to an insert card or your website instead.

Customise a minimalist invitation →Frequently asked questions
What makes a wedding invitation minimalist?
One or two fonts, a near-neutral palette, lots of white space and little to no decoration. The Minimal Noir and Modern Minimal templates are built on exactly these principles.
What should I leave off a minimalist invitation?
Everything non-essential: dress code, travel, registry and detailed reception logistics. Move those to an insert card or your wedding website so the main card stays clean.
Are these minimalist templates free to download?
Yes — free to edit and download as a high-resolution PNG or JPG, with no watermark and no sign-up. Ads keep it free.
Does minimalist mean black and white only?
No. Black-and-white is the purest form, but a single muted accent — sage, dusty blue, blush — still counts as minimalist as long as the layout stays uncluttered.
