When to send wedding thank you cards

Our guide to the wedding stationery suite puts thank you cards within about three months after the wedding. It is easier than it sounds if you start early: design the card before the wedding, print a batch, and write a few notes each evening as gifts arrive. Keep a simple list of who gave what so every note can mention the right gift.

What to write

A good thank you note is short and specific. Name the gift or the help, say how you will use it or what it meant, and thank the guest for being there. Three short patterns you can adapt:

The card above holds a printed heading, a short message and your names. Many couples print a general message and add a handwritten line for each guest underneath or on the back, which keeps the note personal without writing every card from scratch.

Add a photo from the day

A photo turns a thank you card into a keepsake. Open the Photo and QR tab and add a picture: use it as a soft background behind the text, or in a circle, arch or rectangle frame above the heading. The photo is resized inside your browser and never uploaded. Use the focus sliders to keep faces in view, and the overlay slider to keep the text readable on a busy picture.

Sizes for mailing, handing out or texting

The maker starts at 4.25 x 5.5 in (A2) in landscape, which fits an A2 envelope. A 4 x 6 in postcard on card stock can mail at the USPS card price ($0.65 with a stamp) because it fits the card limits of 3.5 to 4.25 in high and 5 to 6 in long. For guests you message rather than mail, choose the square post or phone story size and send the PNG as a photo. Thank you cards share your template and colors with the invitation, so the whole suite still matches months later.

Printing a batch

Download at 3x for 300 dpi, or use Print sheet PDF to place two A2 cards on each US Letter page with cut marks. Print a single test page first and check the photo and colors before you print the full run.

Frequently asked questions

How soon should we send wedding thank you cards?

Within about three months after the wedding. Designing and printing the cards before the wedding makes it much easier to send each note soon after a gift arrives.

Can we put a wedding photo on our thank you cards?

Yes. Add a photo in the Photo and QR tab and use it as a background or in a circle, arch or rectangle frame. The photo is processed in your browser and is never uploaded.

Should thank you notes be handwritten?

A short handwritten line is what makes a note feel personal. Many couples print the card with a general message and their names, then add one handwritten sentence for each guest.

What size are wedding thank you cards?

A2 cards (4.25 x 5.5 in) are a common size and fit A2 envelopes. A 4 x 6 in postcard on card stock is a cheaper option to mail at the $0.65 USPS card price (USPS Notice 123 price list), and the square or phone sizes work for thank yous sent by message.

Is the thank you card maker free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no paid tier, and you can download as many cards as you need.
